It is my pleasure to introduce one of the oldest Technical Institute of the Country Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology Muzaffarpur, whose existence came on September 25, 1954, just seven years after Independence of India. It was inaugurated by Sri C.P.N Sinha, The then Governor of East Panjab. Subsequently the first prime minister of the country Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru laid down the foundation stone of main building on April 21, 1956. The Institute has a lush green campus of over 86 acres within the heart of the city, the campus offers a safe and lively environment. The institute is well connected with road, train and airport Patna and Darbhanga within vicinity of 70 kms.

The Primary Mission of our institute is to provide resources and state of art program that will help professional development of our students. Initially it was started with Civil Engineering discipline with a batch of 45 students as 1954-55 batch with the name of ‘College of Civil Engineering Muzaffarpur’. Subsequently Electrical and Mechanical Engineering branches were added from session 1960-61 and the institute was renamed as Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology. Further new branches such as Pharmacy (1978) Leather Technology (1986) Information Technology and Electronics and Communication Engineering (2001) Bio Medical and Robotic Engineering (2022) Computer Science and Engineering (2024) were added. The Leather Technology branch was renamed to Chemical Technology (Leather Technology) in the year of 2024. The Institute has also Post Graduate Programs leading to M. Tech degree in Thermal Engineering (2017) Machine Design (2017) Geotechnical (2022) Advance Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Energy Systems and Transportation Engineering (2024). Presently, the Institute has 9 UG Programs and 6 PG Programs with total intake capacity of 620 that is highest in the any government engineering college of the state.

This great institute has produced large number of alumni who served the nation with distinction like Mr. V. K. Singh, former Secretary, Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence, Dr. Arvind Choubey, Director NIT Durgapur, Dr. Pragati Kumar, VC, Sri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Late Yogendra Prasad, former CMD, NHPC, Mr. Satya Prakash, Executive Director & Refinery Head, IOCL, Barauni Refinery to name a few. The Institute has a very active linkage from our alumni association (MITMAAI) who is supporting our students in different academic and extra-curricular activities.

The Institute has MoU with Bihar Start-up Fund Trust (BSFT), Dept. of Industries, Govt. of Bihar and FOOTWEAR DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT INSTITIUE, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India. The Institute is going to sign MoU with various centrally funded technical institutes and public sector units. Most of our passed out graduates are serving in Indian industries, PSU’s, Civil Services, Engineering Services etc.
