Smart India Hackathon, a unique initiative to identify new and disruptive digital technology innovations for solving the challenges faced by our country. In order to work towards our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi‘s vision for Digital India and promote digital literacy, MHRD, AICTE, i4C (Institutional Inclusive Innovation Center), Persistent Systems and MHRD Innovation Cell organizes Smart India Hackathon, the world’s largest nation-building initiative to harness the innovative brilliance of the youth and develop digital products for solving some of the country’s pressing problems.
It was Launched on October 16, 2017, in Pune as its first edition. It harnesses creativity and innovation of students (Engineering, Management, and MCA (Masters in Computer Applications) background), builds a funnel for ‘Startup India, Standup India’ campaign, crowdsources solutions for improving governance and quality of life, and provides an opportunity to students to provide innovative solutions to daunting problems of the country and its citizens.
This initiative is to engage engineering college students to solve problems stated by ministries/Industries on the smart India website. Students are required to submit ideas and prototypes. If selected, ministries will allow students to develop the product further. Thus this is mutually beneficial both to students and the government. The former gets experience and hands-on experience while the later gets problems solved through technology free of cost. Government generates a sense of competition by announcing the best ideas with a cash prize.
