Sri AP Choudhary, an alumni of MIT Muzaffarpur, assumed charge as Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited on 1st August, 2011.
Sri Choudhary joined RINL which runs the state owned Vizag steel plant as Director (Projects) in June 2009 and has been serving the company. Mr. Choudhary, A steel industry veteran, is likely to have a stint of over two years at the helm of affairs of RINL, which attained “Navratna” status in the year 2010. The change in top leadership comes at a critical juncture for RINL, 6.3 MT expansion Project is proceeding towards the stage of commissioning to commence production and RINL is going to invest over Rs 30,000 crore to expand capacity over the next five years. At this stage, Mr. Choudhary’s elevation to the top job is likely to ensure stability in strategy and leadership at the steel major.
A Post Graduate in Design Engineering from Regional Engineering College, Rourkela, Mr. Choudhary joined Rourkela Steel Plant in 1978 where he worked in Projects department and was associated with modernization of RSP and also worked in Maintenance department. He moved to Corporate Office of SAIL at New Delhi in 1997 and was reporting directly to Chairman, SAIL dealing with various issues related to technical, financial, commercial and industrial relations for all the units under SAIL. Prior to joining RINL, he was Executive Director in SAIL Corporate Office.
